This teacher-led silent retreat offers a safe and supportive environment for experienced Meditators, Mindfulness Teacher Trainees and Established Teachers in which to deepen and extend secular mindfulness meditation practice. It provides an opportunity to deeply tune in to our inner processes, exploring the ways we react to experience and how we might practice kindness towards our moment to moment experience and cultivate wisdom.

This silent retreat is specifically designed to meet the good practice guidelines for Mindfulness teachers on the teacher training pathway and is also highly suitable for more experienced teachers wishing to deepen their connection to the core underpinnings of mindfulness as it is taught in the eight-week course. It is also suitable for those who have taken an 8-week mindfulness course and who wish to deepen their practice. No previous retreat experience is required as full teacher support is available.

Theme: "Mindfulness and Compassion"

The development of positive emotions … is absolutely crucial for our development as individuals, and the Compassion meditations are one of the main ways of cultivating positive emotions. So during this retreat, we will be having short talks around this theme to help guide our practice.

How does Compassion enable transformation? Where does suffering come from? What is it that makes us happy? How can we live ethically in a way that supports personal and collective well-being?

In general, our retreats include meditation instruction, talks and guided sessions of mindfulness meditation practice including mindful movement. They provide a safe and nourishing environment for the cultivation of a deep and grounded mindfulness meditation practice.

These retreats offer the opportunity to have an intensive practice, during which it will be possible to cultivate and nourish the special sensitivity that underlies awareness practices. In this period in which Mindfulness practice has become so popular, it is possible to misinterpret it as a technique to learn quickly and to apply easily, rather than an inner and heartfelt personal resource to develop through a long-life practice. Many of us are getting a taste of meditation and a wish to practice more intensively, but there are limited opportunities to take our mindfulness practice deeper.

During the retreats the participants will have the possibility to get closer to and comprehend their personal experiences through the practice of mindfulness meditation in its universal and non-sectarian expression, conveying the way, spirit and practice of MBSR.

Noble Silence

During the retreat, there will be extensive periods of silence. Noble silence is a profound condition which will allow us to get in touch with one of the most important human resources that is "listening".

These retreats will often include:

  • Periods of both guided and self-directed practice
  • Short talks to help with our practice
  • Sustained periods of silence to enable participants to connect more fully with their inner experience
  • Time to practice mindfulness informally between the scheduled sessions
  • The teachers will be available to talk to people individually.
  • A core teaching intention for this retreat is to offer a structure and atmosphere within which we can deeply look into the experience with the freshness of beginner’s mind, enabling new insights and perspectives to emerge.

The core practices:

  • Awareness of Breath and Body
  • Body Scan Meditation
  • Mindful Movement, Standing, and Seated 
  • Choiceless Awareness Meditation

And additionally we also practice:

  • Awareness of Thoughts (Breath, Body, Sounds, and Thoughts)
  • Turning towards the difficult Meditation
  • Kindly Awareness Meditation
  • Informal Mindfulness practices such as the 3 Step Breathing Space, S.T.O.P and R.A.I.N and G.L.A.D

A typical day's programme might be as follows:

8.00 Mindfulness practice, Teacher-Lead

9.00 Breakfast

10.30 Meditation, Teacher-Lead

12.15 Mindful movement/body scan

14.00 Lunch followed by free time to rest and take walks in the countryside

17.00 Short talk on the theme followed by Inquiry

18.00 Break

18.30 Meditation, Teacher-Lead

20.00 Evening Meal

21.30 Short practice to finish the day off

Longer Mindful Walks into the surrounding countryside will also be included

Are retreats suitable for everyone?

Although our mindfulness retreats are suitable for most people, they are not suitable for everyone. Retreats can be quite intensive, and we do not advise attending a retreat if you are suffering from certain conditions or have had a traumatic event which is interfering with your everyday life. When filling out the application form for a retreat, we advise that you provide us with as much information as possible so that we can make sure the retreat you select is suitable for you.

Venue:-

Solterreno Mindfulness Retreat Center lies in peaceful countryside where you can live close to nature. With views of the mountains, valley and the sea. The space is ideal for meditation, relaxation and rest. There are some fascinating walks like the "Barranc del Infern" (Hells gorge), a closed circuit route of some 14Km which takes in 5,946 steps carved into the sides of the valley. The surrounding mountains are ideal for hiking.

Accommodation -

Solterreno has rooms that sleep 2 and two that sleep 3 (same sex) located both in the main house, and in cabins. Linen and towels are provided. There is also a swimming pool and limited WIFI
