Ferda Alakuş
I am a mindfulness teacher and Psychological Counselor. I am experienced at working with children and adults from a range of backgrounds.
Mindful Academy Solterreno TT1 graduate.
I graduated Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling from Marmara University in İstanbul Turkey In 1996. After I graduated, I worked as a Psychological Counselor in various schools. I have been working as a Psychological Counselor at VKV Koç School İn İstanbul Turkey since September 2015.
I finished psychotherapy trainings; Dynamic Psychotherapy from Yavuz Erten; Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy from Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sungur, Family and Couple Therapy from psychologist Emre Konuk, Short-term Solution-Focused Therapy from Assoc. Dr. Esra İşmen Gazioğlu, EMDR I and EMDR II for the reduction of trauma and disturbing thoughts from the Institute of Behavioral Sciences.
In my early career in İstanbul, besides working in schools, I facilitated mindfulness courses and I learned ideas that are central to mindfulness as it is presented today. Understanding the importance of the present moment and that I was ‘not my thoughts’ was very liberating. I discovered ‘modern’ mindfulness in 2018 when I took my first MBSR course. I found this profoundly useful and I have been meditating regularly ever since. I trained to teach the core mindfulness practices at The Mindful Academy Solterreno in 2019 and I will shortly complete TT2.
Making a difference to others has always been important to me, whether this be through sharing the gift of mindfulness.
